Pathfinders

Launch of the Mascot

Coastie

Over the past few months, the Trust has been working on the development of their ‘Pathfinders’ project, which is aimed at developing 3 specially designated children’s walks along the Fife Coastal Path. An essential element of this project was the development of a mascot which the children could relate to and that the Trust could use to communicate environmental issues to children. It was decided to launch a Fife wide schools competition for primaries 5 to 7 to design a mascot. Trust Marketing Officer Marta Reeves-Marr said “ we were overwhelmed by the response and quality of the children’s work and choosing the winner was very difficult. We were delighted that this competition has captured the children’s imagination and resulted in a fantastic mascot”.

Coastie was developed from the winning design created by Michael Short of Markinch Primary School, who received £100 for his school along with a coastal path goodie bag which also included the new ‘must have Coastie’ wristband.

The runner up prize went to Ellen Cummings of Kirkton of Largo, who also received a goodie bag along with a cheque for £50 for her school.
